Greetings!
This file serves as an Installation Guide.
Packaging
~~~~~~~~~
Power is packaged either on a diskette or a Bulletin Board System
(BBS) download, and is contained in a PKZIP authenticated com-
pressed archive file with an extension of ZIP. The filename con-
vention is as follows --
PWRnnn.ZIP
The "nnn" is the version number (i.e. PWR100.ZIP is the name of
the archive file for Power version 1.00).
NOTE: You need the program PKUNZIP.EXE (version 1.0 or later) in
order to extract files from PWRnnn.ZIP, or any file with
the .ZIP extension, for that matter.
Install Program Files
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After unpacking the PWRnnn.ZIP, you should have two of these
files in the package:
INSTALL DOC This Installation Guide
INSTALL EXE Install program
There is no configuration file for the Install program. The In-
stall program is self-contained.
For an exact listing of all files in the package with their
respective CRC values as returned by viewing the ZIPed archives,
see the file PACKING.LST.

How to install your POWER package
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Install program WILL NOT TOUCH your AUTOEXEC.BAT or
CONFIG.SYS files. I know how you feel about changing them
without your notice.
You may want to first print this file out, and then follow these
instructions. Or, if you don't mind being adventurous, just go
ahead and run Install without reading this document. It's quite
straight-forward.
The included install program, INSTALL.EXE, will install the un-
packed files into the drive and directory of your choice. The
new directory will be created for you, if it doesn't exist. If
it does exist, a prompt is given to confirm whether you want to
install the files to this directory. Before installing, it will
check the selected drive for the amount of required free disk
space for installing the files.
There are two possible ways you could have received the software:
via diskette or by download from a BBS. The following instruc-
tions below are the same regardless of your acquisition method:
└───────────────────────┘
The Install program WILL NOT TOUCH your AUTOEXEC.BAT or
CONFIG.SYS files. I know how you feel about changing them
without your notice.
When the Install program kicks up, you will see a pause box with
the string "Press any key to start" in it. At any time user in-
put is required via the keyboard, the function keys F1 and F2 are
active. F1 calls up context-sensitive help, F2 calls up the
About information concerning the Install program.
2
To abort the installation process at any time when a prompt is
given (including the pause box), press the <ESC> key.
Press any key besides F1, F2, and <ESC> to start the installation
process.
The Install program responds by first checking each file in the
current directory to make sure that all files in the entire
package exist. If any files are missing, an error message is
displayed to that effect and a prompt is given on whether to con-
tinue or abort the installation process. If you choose to con-
tinue, all remaining files will be processed and the missing
files will be reported in the file MISSINGF.TXT, which is created
when one or more files is missing. This file will be written to
the drive/directory you specify for the software package instal-
lation. This security feature, in addition to PKZIP's Authoriza-
tion Verification you saw when unpacking the archive file, offers
a bit of file security and assurance to the user that he/she has
all the files that I, the author, intend to distribute. Install
"knows" the names of all the files in the package.
If such a missing-file error occurs, please contact the author
for a valid software package.
Next, after the file-checking process, Install displays a list of
available drive letters to install the POWER package to. Press
the drive letter key, then press the <Enter> key. Entering the
colon (:) after the letter is an option, but is not necessary.
Only the first digit (first letter) entered is significant.
Next, the Install program responds by displaying the default
directory name in the drive you selected. The default directory
is \POWER. To change it, make the desired changes using the cur-
sor keys and the backspace and/or delete keys. The chosen direc-
tory can be either new or existing. If new, it will be created
for you. You can create a new subdirectory within a new sub-
directory.
When you have made your directory selection, press the <Enter>
key.
If you have enough disk space, the installation process will
begin.
If you don't have enough disk space, the Install program will
issue an error message to that effect. In this case, you must
either:
1) Delete some unnecessary files in your drive, or
2) Select another drive.
The entire package requires approximately 800K of free disk
space.
After the installation process is completed, Install will change
the default directory to the drive and directory where the POWER
package files were installed to, and then exit to the DOS command
3
prompt, where the included LIST program will execute immediately
to display the file GREET.DOC. To exit from the LIST program,
press either <ESC>, F10, or ALT-X.
Please read the next file, README.1ST, a file containing intro-
ductionary information about POWER.
